Snowed In!
Folks, \r\n \r\nWe are officially snowed in here at the Seehaus near Rupholding, Germany. Some of you may have heard that its been snowing a lot since we've been here, but it is officially a ridiculous amount. When it snows here they only measure it in feet and never in inches! It has snowed for about 7 out of the 10 days of our stay. The road out in front of our guesthouse was closed yesterday evening. The plows could not keep it clear enough and now there i at least 2 maybe even 3 feet of snow sitting on it. The trail groomers cannot keep up with the trails either. Our inn keepers are totally burdened by all the snow. Sharbel, Trond, and Vidar spent many hours up on the rooftops shoveling today. At one point I was sure I heard my ceiling start to grunt and groan under the weight. After the shoveling they jumped off the three story building into the snow bank. Trond, at his height, went all the way up to his neck! \r\n \r\nThe team used creativity to get their workouts in today. Some of us helped shovel out small vehicles that had all but disappeared in the white. Some skied right down the unclosed road which offered about 6" of fresh powder to get to the biathlon range. Some of us had to run with our skis on down the highway to get to the nearest groomed trails. It is mayhem of the best kind. I think it deserves a laugh to think of how many times I've heard people say during this week, "Wouldn't it be cool if we got snow in!" Well, here we are. \r\n \r\nThe meals come and go and we usually sit afterwards chatting for long amounts of time. No one is in a hurry and I think that our host grandmother is brewing twice as much coffee. We've all been whittling away at our list of 'must see movies'. \r\n \r\nBeing the mother of a young child I've experience this snow in a couple of different ways. I have helped my husband as we construct tunnels, slides, steps, snow caves and deep trails cut into the woods for our little Tabor to play on. We enjoy them also, especially sliding down the slides head first in our raincoats! \r\n \r\nTomorrow the men have a time trial to see who is racing the fastest before the upcoming World Cup, so we'll hope that they have some tracks and good kick. The ladies will have their time trail on Saturday. \r\n \r\nFrom the winter wonderland this is Rebecca Dussault signing out! \r\n \r\nSki On. \r\n \r\n
