\r\nMuonio and San Diego
\r\nA Compare and Contrast Essay
\r\n
\r\nMuonio Lapland, Finland and San Diego California, USA have many similarities and also many differences.
\r\n
\r\nOne example of the similarities is that both places have reindeer. A difference would be that there are two reindeer at the San Diego Zoo and 200,000 reindeer on the road between Roveniemi and Muonio.
\r\n
\r\nAnother example of the similarities is the manner of speaking. In Muonio when it is middle of the day you say: “it’s high muonio,” where as in San Diego you say: “it’s high noon, yo.”
\r\n
\r\nWhen it’s noon in San Diego the sun angle makes getting sunburned a concern. When it’s noon in Muonio the sun angling from the southern horizon can cause a horrible glare on the icy roadway.
\r\n
\r\nThere are many similarities and differences with the landscape. In Muonio there are several mountains sprinkled across the frozen swamp and pine covered flatland. In San Diego there are mountains rising up from the Pacific Ocean.
\r\n
\r\nThe population of these mountains is another point of similarity and difference. In Muonio the mountains are populated by reindeer fleeing their Lappish landlords. In San Diego they are populated by people formally of Latin America fleeing poverty and oppression and the border patrol trying to keep them from reaching the nicer, shinier brand of poverty and oppression we have waiting for them.
\r\n
\r\nOn a lighter note there are rabbits in the mountains of both Muonio and San Diego. In San Diego I would label them bunnies as they are about the size of bunnies. In Muonio I would call them huge mutant dog-sized rabbits as they are about the size of deerhounds. They are also white whereas the San Diego bunnies are brown.
\r\n
\r\nIn Muonio the ground is covered in tiny crystals of frozen water called snow. In San Diego the ground is covered in tiny crystals of quartz called sand.
\r\n
\r\nFood is another topic that offers both similarities and differences. In San Diego you can burn your mouth with spices. In Muonio you can get windburn standing outside but the spiciest thing around is black pepper.
\r\n
\r\nIn both San Diego and Muonio you can train for cross-country skiing. Muonio has the edge here as there is snow (see above). After training in San Diego you can surf or play basketball. In Muonio you can write first-grade-esque essays and sip scalding hot tea.
\r\n
\r\nIn conclusion I would have to say that San Diego is pretty cool and Muonio is pretty cold.
