Back in PC and Waiting for Winter
Back in PC \r\n \r\nBy Andy Newell \r\n \r\n \r\nWe have been in Park City for a week and ½ or so and everyone is settling into the fall training routine. After trainin’ and chillin’ in Calli for a few weeks coming back here is a little bit of season shock. The sun and heat of San Diego made it feel like it was the middle of August or something and then you come back here and realize its already October and we are going to be ski racing in a month. Having been going to the beach every summer since I was a little kid, and being a swimmer and lifeguard in Vermont I have always been drawn to the sun, water, and the heat. I don’t want you to think that I don’t like winter or anything, I do, but I am one of those people that gets caught up in whatever is going on at that moment. \r\n \r\nWhenever my family went on vacation to shore when I was a kid, as soon as I set foot in the sand I would think to myself, “yeah I want to be a lifeguard on the beach when I grow up”. Vacation would pass by and two weeks later I would be on my skateboard thinking, “man, it would be awesome to be a skateboarder, that’s what I’m going to do”. Before I knew it lacrosse season would start and I would find myself running down the field thinking about how I wanted to play pro lacrosse when I get older. Call it a short attention span or maybe I just have a wild imagination, but I would go through a cycle like this every year. \r\n \r\n

\r\n \r\nAs a 20 year old not a whole lot has changed. I have to admit, when I was in San Diego on my surfboard the thought of training to be a professional surfer did cross my mind. Some skiers may think of this as a bad thing but I don’t. Instances like these take my mind off skiing just for a little bit and allow me escape into my own world for a few days. My imagination keeps me always wanting more, and gives me great boosts of motivation all year long. \r\n \r\nSo we are back in Park City from San Diego and unfortunately I had to give up my dreams of becoming a professional surfer. I did, however, successfully give the surfing bug to about half the team so I’m sure that people will be up for a little trip this spring. It’s good to be back though because I feel like I’m in great shape from the summer. The nights are getting colder and the taste of winter is in the air. In fact, I’m starting to think to myself “damn, it would be sick to be a professional cross country skier, and it’s going to be bad ass to kick some Euro butt this year”. \r\n \r\n \r\n

\r\n \r\nEds. Note: As Newell wrote this article, we’re pretty sure he wasn’t dreaming of becoming a novelist…or was he? \r\n
