\r\nThe Olympic Training Center in San Diego has one extraordinary aspect that is not found in the U.S. Ski Team’s home town of Park City, Utah- SURFING!
\r\n
\r\nEvery skier and coach at this camp has strapped on a leash connected to a nine-foot-long foam board. Oh yes, we are tourists and lovin’ it.
\r\n
\r\nAfter three surfing outings we have successfully surfed La Jolla, Imperial and Blacks Beach. Blacks Beach offered a 300 ft hike down to the surf where the sand was black, the waves were curling and the people were naked.
\r\n
\r\n“I don’t think any of us should quit skiing to pursue surfing”, said Andrew Johnson. However, he added that “getting thrashed like a Barbie Doll in a washing machine is a great workout”.
