\r\n8:00am – Sept. 24th - Chula Vista, CA - interval workout #7:
\r\n
\r\nIt’s day five and we are headed out for the seventh hard intensity workout in five days. Although we still feel strong and ready, today is a little different. Mentally we are aware it is the last interval session before two recovery days, which causes what Rebecca calls “mental permission”. Mental permission happens after the last interval, when we give into the pain and exhaustion and allow ourselves to feel fatigued.

\r\n9:15am:
\r\n
\r\nDuring the fourth and final four minute interval we feel like we have tapped all our resources and are completely focused on our self induced torture. But strangely enough, something breaks the trance - Border Patrol. Rounding a corner, we happen upon two of the white and green Border Patrol jeeps so commonly seen cruzing the highway. Looking closer we see a man being frisked and hear the helicopter above. Because we are within five miles of the Mexican border, we jump to assumptions; this man made a long, hot, illegal trek across the desert mountains, only to find his freedom jeopardized by the boarder police. As soon as we are past him however, our mind quickly focuses to the task at hand- finishing the intervals strong.

\r\nTired and content, we decide to head to the zoo with Rebecca’s family. The San Diego Zoo is world famous and we wanted to see what all the hype was about. The orangutans, hippo, rhino, and koala bears were some of our favorites, but the mom and baby panda were a close second. After four hours of pounding pavement, we checked our watches and headed for the exit. It was past closing time and we were staving, content, and beat. We treated ourselves with some tasty Greek cuisine
\r\n
\r\nNow we will reward ourselves for all the hard work with two days of surfing and the beach!
