First Team Today Clinic a Success

\r\nTeam Today, in conjunction with Gear West, held a coaches and athletes technique and racing clinic over the weekend of September 11 and 12 in Minneapolis, Minn. The clinic was held at French Park.
\r\n
\r\nThe clinic was a success, with a turnout of around seventy participants. There was a wide variety of athletes, including a few highschool athletes and many masters-level skiers. Participants came from all over the Midwest, including Ely, Minn., Wisconsin, and Chicago. The clinic had separate programs for coaches and athletes.
\r\n
\r\nClinic coaches were Pete Vordenberg and Andrew Johnson. On day one (Saturday), Pete led several groups of participants through both classic and skate technique progressions. The technique progressions started with several fundamental dry-land drills, and then moved to rollerskis. Each session was about three hours long. During the day Andrew led a couple groups of athletes through a combination spenst/core strength workout. Saturday highs were close to ninety and very humid, so most participants were ready to call it a day after over four hours of instruction!

\r\nSaturday evening Pete and Andrew held a talk at French Park. Pete gave an inspiring rendition of his ‘Team Today’ speech, with emphasis on goal setting, designing methods for realizing goals, and maximizing the potential of each individual day. Andrew filled the crew in on the impetus behind Team Today and our goals for the organization. This was followed by a question and answer period during which Pete and Andrew fielded questions regarding racing, training, travel, and many other topics.

\r\nOn Sunday Pete led another group of participants through his technique progressions, while Andrew went for a three hour rollerski in another nearby Minneapolis park. Several clinic participants joined Andrew for what was primarily a ski-a-long, although there were a few brief stops for technique talk.

\r\n“The clinic was excellent! Got some new ideas and my existing thoughts on training and technique were reinforced…The clinic was everything I could ask for and I hope we can do it again next year”, said clinic participant Paul Haltvick.

\r\nTeam Today would like to thank Gear West for sponsoring the event. We’d also like to thank Phil Bowen for his outstanding organization of the weekend. Team Today would be remiss without thanking all the participants for a great turn-out and a fun weekend. Hopefully, in the future Team Today will be able to build on the success of this past weekend and offer similar clinics all over the country.
