San Diego Update
San Diego Update \r\n \r\nBy Torin Koos \r\n \r\nLike a volleyball to the noggin, a moment can hit you suddenly, powerfully. Flying over Mt. Shasta on my way to the USOC training center in Chula Vista, California, I am jittery with excitement. For me this is as good as it gets; a trip to a new locale to work on perfecting skills, 25c Los Angeles Times, hot, sunny days and an all-you can-eat smorgasboard. Not having perky Carly Patterson as a neighbor or a booty-licious Amanda Beard for suitemate so far has been the biggest letdown. \r\n \r\nWith the Olympic Training Center situated twenty miles east of San Diego within minutes we can be out, rolling over the arid and hilly California countryside. The morning’s workout kicked off the low altitude, high intensity camp. Low altitude to minimize risks of over training; high intensity to make us fitter, faster skiers who can handle the taxing workloads racing requires. Little girls from Sweden might have dreams of being a Hollywood silver screen sensation, but I’d rather rollerski the California heat and humidity, infatuated with my dreams of winning races and FIS World Championship flirtation. \r\n \r\n
