Climbing King's Peak
Climbing King’s Peak \r\n \r\nBy Justin Freeman \r\n \r\nMy wife, Heidi, and I are trying to climb the highest mountains in as many states as we can. Or at least the states where we have lived. (We even did the highest point in the Czech Republic). So it was easy to decide to attempt King’s Peak over Labor Day weekend. \r\n \r\nIt’s a three day trip, which isn’t so bad, but the two nights in between were a bit colder than they needed to be. \r\n \r\nAnd King’s Peak is almost as tall as Mount Washington, Mount Katahdin, and Mount Mansfield (the high points of New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont, respectively) stacked on top of one another. So it was a very long day on Sunday, when we reached the summit. \r\n \r\nBut we made it, and were rewarded with some beautiful views, not to mention there is little better than a long hot shower after getting back from two sub-freezing nights in the wilderness. \r\n \r\nHere are some of the highlights: \r\n \r\n
