Race Report: Soldier Hollow Running Time Trial
Race Report: Soldier Hollow 10K and 5K Running Time Trial \r\n \r\nThe cross-country team races the Olympic 10K and 5K loops at Soldier Hollow, on foot, three times a year. The first time happens in late July, the second in September, and the final effort is done just before the team gets on snow in late October. \r\n \r\nToday's time trial had the largest number of participants, ever. The entire national and develoment teams, as well as several guest athletes including Olympians Lars Flora and Barb Jones, members of last year's junior world team, Norwegian national team meber Sigrid Aas, among others. \r\n \r\n
\n Torin Koos posted the fastest time in the 5K.
\r\n \r\nThe sprinting orientated athletes and the women raced a slightly shortened loop of the 5K (about 4700 meters. Everyone else ran the 10K. Several athletes had problems finding their way around their respective course, and the distance discrepancies are noted in the results. \r\n \r\nMen's 5K \r\n \r\nTorin Koos 16:38 (PR around 16:00) \r\nAndy Newell 16:58 \r\nZack Simons 17:48 \r\n \r\nWomen's 5K \r\n \r\nSigrid Aas 21:26 (long) \r\nBarb Jones 21:35 (long) \r\nLindsey Weier 21:37 (short) \r\nRebecca Dussault 21:59 (long) \r\nMorgan (? - Junior) 22:16 (short) \r\nKatie (? - Junior) 25:44 (long) \r\n \r\n
\n Rebecca Dussault ran a little faster than her time, if you factor in a small detour on the course!
\r\n \r\nMen's 10K \r\n \r\nKris Freeman 37:47 (PR 37:11) \r\nJustin Freman 38:09 \r\nAndrew Johnson 39:22 \r\nLars Flora 39:53 \r\nBeau Baldock 40:45 \r\nLeif Zimmerman 41:04 \r\nChris Cook 41:23 \r\nMike Sinnot 42:42 \r\nTrond Nystad 43:01 \r\nCasey Ward 44:27 \r\nCasey Simons 48:27 \r\nTim Damrow 49:31 \r\n \r\n \r\nTimes as a whole were a little off personal bests for most of the team. However, several athletes who have done this same time trial for the past few years posted very competitive times to their past July performances. Some minor training changes have resulted in less emphasis on running so these time differentials were not unexpected. \r\n \r\n"The year athletes have shown up in by far the best shape technically and physically over past years. I don't think running times are indicative of the team's fitness level. I'm extremely excited to have seen good people look in more specific training and in the weight room", said coach Pete Vordenberg. \r\n \r\n
\n Justin Freeman, aka "Captain America", blazing the final downhill.
