Tour de France: Simons Picks Ullrich
\r\nZACK SIMONS \r\n \r\n2004 TEAM TODAY FANTASY TOUR \r\n \r\n \r\nGC \r\n \r\n 1. Jan Ullrich (Telkom) \r\n 2. Lance Armstrong (USPS-Berry Floor) \r\n 3. Tyler Hamilton (Phonak) \r\n \r\nThe first rule of business is to never make decisions based on emotion. I just broke that rule. I’ve had enough of Lance. Ullrich is the man to beat him, he’s won before and been second almost every year since then. Tyler Hamilton gets my vote because he’s got Oscar Sevilla by his side and they put together a hell of a run at the Dauphine Libere. Finally, both of these jokers beat Armstong in the Mont Ventoux ITT, which won’t be too unlike the Alpe D’Huez ITT. \r\n \r\nGreen Jersey \r\n \r\n 1. Alessandro Petacchi (Fasso Bortolo) \r\n \r\nAfter the Giro di Italia, it's clear that no one can touch ‘The Gentleman’ as he is called. Winning eight stages in the Giro put him ahead of ‘The Lion King’, Domina Vacanze’s top gun and former record holder, Mario Cippolini. It would be great to see Cippolini win a stage as he may very well be the coolest guy EVER. \r\n \r\nPolka Dot Jersey \r\n \r\n 1.Iban Mayo (Euskatel-Euskadi) \r\n \r\nI’m going with Mayo here for one very good reason. He is a clear a threat for the GC and he is not a good time trailer. I’m sure he knows this and will give everything he has to the long climbs of the Alps as they will be his only chance at putting time on the peloton. \r\n \r\nWhite Jersey \r\n \r\n 1.Syvain Chavanel (Brioches La Boulangere) \r\n \r\nKelme was not invited to The Tour this year, otherwise I would have picked Alejandro Valverde. I’ll go with Chavanel instead as he’ll likely be high up on the GC standings after riding alongside his boys Joseba Beloki and the ever aggressive Didier Rous. \r\n \r\n
\n Iban Mayo should be a strong threat for the Polka Dot Jersey, if not the GC.
