East-side Update

Andy Newell is a member of the national team and a phenomenal sprinter. He’s also the founder of XSKI FILMS. He hangs out in Bennington, VT, when not on the road.

\r\nCharging into the seventh week of the training year everything is going well here in Vermont. I have continued to keep strength the main focus of my training and have begun to see a big increase in leg strength from the squats and lunges incorporated in the strength routine. One of the most important aspects my training plan for this year has been to keep all workouts under 2 hours, to increase overall speed of motion for 10/15ks and sprints. This may seam like it would make your training week easier, but in reality it just makes you train more double sessions in order to get your total hours in. It took me a few weeks to find the right way to incorporate everything I needed into the training week, but the boys and I have started to settle into a routine. This is what a typical week (with an emphasis on strength) looks like for me and the V.T.M. crew.

\r\nTue: am: dist run w/ 30 min Spenst 1:30-2:00

\r\n pm: short run and strength 1:20
\r\n
\r\nWed: up hill double poll (no kicking) 1:30
\r\n
\r\nThurs: am: bounding int. lv.3 1:30
\r\n
\r\n pm: Strength 1:00
\r\n
\r\nFri: up hill no poll skate 1:30-2:00
\r\n
\r\nSat: am: run and Strength
\r\n
\r\n pm: classic ski and double poll.
\r\n
\r\nSun: Off
\r\n
