Chris Grover to Leave USST
Chris Grover to Move On \r\n \r\nTeam Today News \r\n \r\nChris Grover, Head Coach of the USST Development Team, announced today that he will be leaving the US Ski Team at the end of the month. \r\n \r\nGrover has been with the team for five years. He originally came into the program as an assistant to the Head Coach of the National Team, but in the coaching shuffle of two years ago Coach Grover took over the reins of the D-Team. \r\n \r\nGrover has accepted a coaching position with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation. He’ll be working with juniors in the near future and will be instrumental in the development of a senior program in Sun Valley over the next couple years. \r\n \r\n“This was a very hard decision for me,” said Grover. “I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss working with (the athletes). However, this new job is a great opportunity for me and my family right now… it is a very good position with much less travel than my current job”. Grover’s wife Svea recently gave birth to the couple’s second child. \r\n \r\n“Chris will be sorely missed. He's been a key element in the last 4-5 \r\nyears in our shift to basing our team's day-to-day training in Park \r\nCity. Athletes he's worked with here at USSA at the development level have graduated into the World Cup to produce some of our biggest \r\nbreakthrough results”, said USST Program Director Luke Bodensteiner. \r\n \r\nBodensteiner has been very pleased with Grover’s accomplishments with the USST. “Last year, we challenged him to get development-level skiers on the podium in the Europa Cup, and they did so. Last year was the first time we had multiple Europa Cup podiums in a season, and for that, he was named USSA's development coach of the year, which is quite an honor considering the great development coaches we also have in alpine, freestyle, snowboarding and ski jumping”, Bodensteiner added. \r\n \r\nGrover will stay involved in the selection of his replacement at the USST. National Team coaches Trond Nystad and Pete Vordenberg will begin looking for replacements immediately. “The person we hire will be someone who can work well within the structure the Trond and Pete have created, and that can contribute at a level to (our) pursuit of \r\nExcellence”, said Grover. \r\n \r\nGrover’s tireless attitude and dedication to his athletes, as well as the hundreds of developing athletes and coaches he worked with throughout the country, will certainly be missed. However, we look forward to seeing him on the trails this winter! \r\n \r\nWe wish the Grover family the very best for the future! \r\n \r\n
