\r\nEarly May is a great time for skiers to enjoy moments away from the ski world, however I never seem to leave the ski world far behind.  For my mini-break this spring I spent 5 days at Hatcher Pass, Alaska helping Aelin Peterson ( a past fellow Olympian) with her wedding.  Aelin married Luke Allegood.   So even though I was taking a break from the ski world, I find that the friends I have made in the ski world are so wonderful and important that they fill other facets of my life.  It was wonderful to see Aelin so happy!  She even managed to get me into a dress with flowers and nail polish! \r\nFollowing the wedding I visited another past US teammate, Amy Crawford.  Amy has joined the Peace Corp. and is leaving for a two year stint in Mongolia.  The ski world draws in such amazing and talented people who, even after their ski goals have changed, lead such active and exciting lives.  With Amy, I enjoyed a sea kayaking trip out of Wittier, AK in  Passage Canal.  I justified the trip by noting that kayaking is a great upper body strength work-out.  During our trip we saw a mountain goat scrambling along the banks.  What was even more amazing was the wolverine, who was hanging around the goat without bothering each other.  We then boated past Kittywake and Commorant rookeries.  It was exciting to see them fending off the bald eagle attacks!  Amy has built her own kayak.  It is a beautiful, golden, wood boat.  Amy's craftsmanship was impressive.  She even let me paddle it on the return trip!

\r\nWell, a skiers vacation would not be over without a quick trip to Moab.  When my plane landed in Salt Lake City, I jumped in my truck (loaded down with mountain bike and camp gear) and headed for the slickrock and sun!  What a fun time!Â

\r\nIn June I will begin working out again with the team but in the meantime, I continue to train on my own.  I love to incorporate my love of the outdoors with my training program, so the next month will be spent mountain biking, climbing, and backpacking with friends and family.  I hope to see some fellow skiers out enjoying the beautiful spring...'til next time, Cheers!  Wendy
